It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s also one of the most important times of the year if your business has an online presence. Having a Christmas social media strategy in place for your business is key if you want to gain any kind of visibility throughout the months of November and December.
Whilst they are primarily American holidays, Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are recognised globally and give marketers something to focus their strategy around. Whether you are an e-commerce business or not, Black Friday in particular coaxes people into a consumer mindset, so this is the perfect time to focus your social strategy around getting your company in front of their eyes. Today we are more concerned with Christmas and New Year, but if you want to find out more about Black Friday Marketing, we have a blog all about that too!
When it comes to putting your Christmas social media strategy together, it is difficult to know where to start. We’ve all been there, sat in front of the computer with our fingers hovering over the keyboard not quite knowing what to type. But hopefully this blog can help shed some light on where to start when putting together your festive social strategy.
To start with, here are a couple of tips to help guide you in the right direction.
Stand out from the crowd – We are very aware that this is much easier said than done. Christmas has
always been a time for brands to go to town on their marketing efforts and – like those splurging on
Christmas presents on the high street – it can be easy to get swept up in the chaos without really knowing
what you’re doing. This year alone we have been seeing Christmas content since October. Consider your
brand, and more specifically your USP, and how you can angle your business’ unique character to cater
your Christmas social media strategy accordingly.
Be creative – Curating Christmas content should be fun. Think of some unique social content ideas, and
get creative with the process. Do you prioritise video content this year and find unique ways of getting that
into your content plan? Should you branch into the world of influencer marketing? Do you explore a new
social platform? The online world is your oyster when it comes to social media, so be as creative as
possible.
Be strategic – Whilst it is all well and good having a fun and festive time creating Christmas social media
content, it is important to be strategic about it. Your brand’s organic social media presence is there to
support your brand image and help boost your company’s overall success through increased brand
awareness. Make sure whatever content you are creating is both relevant and strategic to the overall goal
of your company’s social strategy.
Prepare well in advance – We know that putting together a Christmas social media plan takes time! There
is a lot of extra thought and work that goes into the idea generation process, content curation and
community management throughout December. Give yourself enough time to do it and do it to a good level.
(And if you don’t think you have the time to manage this internally, get in touch, we might be able to
help 😉)
Ensure budget is being optimised – People are in more of a consumer headspace throughout the month
of December, so it is worth taking advantage of this time and considering putting some extra budget into
advertising spend throughout December. Whether that be by considering a paid social advertising
campaign, or boosting some of your organic content to increase reach, consider what will work best
within your social strategy, but definitely have a conversation around it.
We’re sure this all sounds great but we all know that when it comes to sitting down and actually putting a Christmas social media strategy together, that is when brain fog tends to hit.
